Amalgam Restorations

Amalgam

Amalgam is a mixture of metals made by combining silver, tin, copper, minimal amounts of mercury and other metallic elements.

Amalgam is a durable, highly resistant to wear and is an inexpensive filling option that appears as a silver filling once placed in a tooth.

Amalgam has been highly researched throughout the years and remains a safe, commonly used restorative filling material.

Resin Restorations

Resin

Resin or composite filling materials are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium that produces a tooth-colored filling.

Resin fillings provide good durability in both anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth when placed as a filling.

Because resins appear tooth colored it is a great cosmetic choice. The cost of a resin filling is moderate and depends on the size of the filling.

Root canal therapy

Root canal picture

Root canal therapy is recommended when the pulp of the tooth as became diseased, injured, or lost vitality. This can happen due to a deep cavity, a crack in the tooth, or a traumatic injury to the tooth, all of which can allow bacteria to leak into the pulp of the tooth. Once bacteria is able to enter the pulp, infection and an abscess can form. During the root canal therapy procedure a small access is made through the biting surface of the tooth, in order to remove the damaged pulp tissue from the tooth. A filling material is placed in the canals after they have been thoroughly cleaned and reshaped. Once the root canal therapy is completed a new silver or tooth colored filling is placed in the tooth. A crown may be recommended after root canal therapy is completed because the tooth over time may become brittle due to the lose of its blood supply.

Bridges

A bridge is a dental restoration that replaces the space where one or more teeth have been lost. The teeth adjacent to the space are prepared by removing a minimal amount of tooth structure from around each tooth, similar to a crown preparation. After an impression is taken, it is sent to a dental lab where the bridge is crafted to precisely fit the patients mouth.

Bridges are constructed with a metal substructure and porcelain baked over the metal, it appears as natural tooth structure once cemented in the mouth. The bridge is cemented in place, covering the adjacent teeth and replacing the missing tooth or teeth with a false tooth.

An implant (far right) is a great option to replace a missing tooth. The implant is a man-made cylinder that is surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw where they function as a sturdy anchor for replacement teeth. The implant is made of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body.

An implant looks and feels like a natural tooth. It fits securely when you chew or speak.

A single tooth implant is a freestanding unit and does not involve the adjacent teeth. An implant can stabilize your bite and help prevent problems with your jaw caused by a missing tooth or teeth.

Veneers

Ceramic veneers are extremely thin shells made of a strong and durable dental ceramic that is cemented over natural tooth structure after the tooth has been shaped. Veneers are a popular treatment option for front teeth that are severely discolored, poorly shaped or slightly crooked. Veneers may also be placed to improve the looks and function of teeth that are chipped, worn or correct uneven spacing between teeth.

Composite bonding

Cosmetic bonding

Composite bonding is a great treatment option to correct spacing between front teeth. Composite bonding is done using a composite resin material and a shade is selected to match your natural tooth structure. The composite material used is durable, stain-resistant, and natural-looking. Composite bonding is generally done in one dental appointment.
